How do I clean my Marmoleum?
First up, you want to be sure to keep it swept. If you can keep street grit off the floor you will really improve the life of your floor and the health of your indoor air at the same time. Many of the contaminants and particles in our indoor air come in on the soles of our shoes. After that, you want to simply spot clean any organic stains with warm water and then work you way up the list by going to a little mild detergent and possible a gentle citrus cleaner for anything extremely stubborn like tar. General cleaning can be done with the Forbo cleaner and just a capful in warm water will loosen and pickup most of your accumulated dirt. Stubborn spots will usually come free if you just let the cleaner sit on them for a minute. A clean rinse is always the most healthy way to clean the floor. In general, it is important to note that wet floor mopping is generally a contributor to poor indoor air quality and sweeping with a fine broom and spot cleaning is generally all that is required.
What cleaner do I use on my new Marmoleum floor?
The best finish to use is the Forbo floor cleaner and finish. The cleaner is a ph balanced product that will not contribute to staining.
Do I need a professional to refinish my floor?
Periodic application of the Forbo Finish product right after the floor is cleaned is all that is necessary to keep the floor nice and new. Even though the maintenance is done easily, many folks feel better to hire a professional who is acquainted with linoleum floors. It is important to note that
Why do so many people get it wrong?
Years ago, there was one way to care for a floor. You applied wax and you could use solvent to remove it after a few years when it got filmy and discolored and you could reapply it. Unfortunately, today there are lots of people offering advice and they are generally guessing and have never done the job they are advising on or have undergone 15 minutes of training.

Unfortunately, some folks are sold or buy Marmoleum for the wrong reasons. It is natural, resilient and beautiful but it is not maintenance free. While it will last for decades it requires some care. Lots of grit on the floor will wear the factory finish quickly and it may require reapplication which is easy. Simply cleaning and recoating is all that is necessary and the products to do that are not expensive or hard to find on the internet.
Applying the wrong products for cleaning and maintenance are the biggest problem we see. Extremely high ph cleaners are bad and can damage the finish and the flooring underneath pretty easily.
