The Marmoleum Clique is a special place on the web. We fancy ourselves to be folks who get it. We understand the challenges that are facing this world from so many directions. Who would think that simply liking a favorite type of flooring could pigeon hole you as a type of person, but it isn't as much about what the flooring says about you but how it posits your view on the world. Lets just sum it up like this:
The twentieth century made a real mess out of the world and lots of the things that we were brought up to view as progress were just "false progress." Lots of the things that factories churned out were items that we could make but not necessarily things we "should" make with our resources. Indiscriminate use of cheap energy for process power and the availability of artificially inexpensive materials and natural resources had the most devastating impact on our planet's people. Much of the resource extraction done in the world was destroying primitive cultures and advanced civilizations that were simply small and relatively powerless.
To us, Marmoleum stands for finding a balance in the world.
Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam,
Be it ever so humble, there’s no place like home;
Apologies to J H Payne must be expressed
Or this verse will be pure theft at best.
While exiled from home, scouting materials up-to-date,
What to use to replace the old carpet I hate,
The DIY in me fell in love with Marmoleum
So pretty and easy and free of petroleum.
I gazed on the naked floors with anticipation,
And designed a layout of my own wild creation.
My carpenter did machine cuts and we both did the Click
And found that the floor got finished right quick.
How sweet, how Cool, and thoroughly Green,
I even enjoy keeping the silly Floors clean.
So round two is upon me: three more rooms to do,
The adventure starts again, and the colors are new.
To return ever more determined, renovation the goal,
My heart still flutters at Marmoleum —
Not linoleum — never rustoleum –like a museum —
Such a lovely home, and the floor is floating;
If I could be humble I wouldn’t be gloating.
No more from that cottage again will I roam;
Be it ever so tumble, there’s no place like home.

All words must be in the latest version of the Websters dictionary.
Exceptions are granted for creative variations of words ending with “oleum.”
All entries are approved at the discretion of the blogmaster.
All entries are graded on a curve.
Entrants are “asked” to supply a picture of their floor.
